City Hotel
Columbia, California
Should you inquire, City Hotel staff will be quick to tell you about Elizabeth, a woman who died in childbirth, interestingly, not at the hotel but on a bed that was formerly at a private estate. The bed was brought to the hotel (Room 1) in the 1970s — and seemed to have brought Elizabeth’s ghost with it. Guests can hear Elizabeth crying at night, often in pain. Doors are inexplicably slammed shut and unusual scents like lavender arise out of nowhere within the room.

Some 200 yards away, at the sister property Fallon Hotel, (which was also built in 1857), 2 mischievous young boys (Jimmy and Abraham) move objects around, smear caramel syrup on the walls in the ice cream parlor and tug on skirts. They were both sons of the original owners; Abraham is believed to have died in a fire in the building in the early 1900s, while Jimmy died much later yet returned to the hotel to reunite with his brother.

Come to Columbia State Historic Park on October 26, 27 & 28, 2012 and celebrate a family oriented Halloween in the best way possible. There will be many places to investigate for paranormal activity on Saturday night for those interested in ghost hunting but we are also going to have speakers on a variety of paranormal topics, a Mystic Faire and Market Place and other events that take place throughout the weekend. Some will have a cost and some will be free. It is also the weekend for Columbia’s Illumination of Jack O’Lanterns when the streets will be filled with strolling musicians, storytellers and reenactments and lighted pumpkins after the sun goes down. This is not going to be just for ghost hunters but their families as well as the general public, kids included. In fact, teens ages 12-17 will be able to attend the lectures for $10 pp and children ages 11 and under will be admitted for free. It will be a family friendly event at a place with something for everyone.
